A leather sofa is composed of three major parts: the leather, the wooden frame, and the foam.
Leather
Pigskin, horsehide, donkey hide, and cowhide can all be used as sofa materials and the finished products are known as genuine leather sofas. Cowhide is soft, thick, and usually of the highest grade among the leather options for sofa. Horsehide and donkey hide are similar, but their surfaces tend to loosen over time, making them prone to peeling and less durable. Pigskin is thinner, with coarser pores.
Wooden Frame
A quality sofa must have a solid frame. The frame is usually built and formed by square wooden sticks, secured with wooden boards on the sides. This structure ensures that the sofa remains stable and does not deform. The sofas made by nailing pine plywood board directly without a wooden frame are usually much less durable and sturdy.
Foam
High resilience foam, soft high resilience foam, and medium resilience foam are the 3 major forms of foam used by sofas. Medium resilience foam is generally used for the backrest and armrests, while the other two types of foam are used for the seating part. High-end leather sofas are usually made with cowhide and high resilience foam. In the market, you may see sofa seats made of medium resilience foam, or even glued foam scraps. This may lead to lack of elasticity within six months.

How to Maintain Leather Furniture?
When cleaning, avoid using water directly. Instead, use a dry cloth with a leather cleaner to gently wipe the surface. Alternatively, use a piece of slightly damp cotton or silk cloth to gently wipe the surface. After cleaning, you can apply a layer of leather polish or wax to keep the surface shiny and protected. If stains occur, use a damp cotton cloth with a small amount of neutral soap water to wipe, then dry with a dry towel.
Leather furniture should not be placed in direct sunlight or near high heat sources, as this can cause the leather to age and deteriorate.
